Love knows No seasons for a Cowboy and his Indian...

Its been a long winter this one..perhaps the longest one in my 13 years here in Canada..Of course my Cowboy helped to warm it up with his Love and laughter but yet..the Ice Storm..the Wind Chills, sub Zero temperatures and Polar Vortex's almost sent us into hibernation mode..

Yet we have had our moments and as the first Green Blades of Grass peep out from Mother Earth..some moments then and now to celebrate..

Whoo you ?Arctic White Owl in  South Ontario winter 2013/2014
Late January..I'm walking down the street on Fern avenue when Brian calls from work.. ..its 4 Pm but almost dark..we talk about our weekend plans as I say " Whoopie doo" I awaken something on the tree that starts Whooping or Hooting in anger..A crowd gathers under the tree..awe struck..I too look up..a huge white owl.never seen one like that turns out to be the rare Arctic Owl that came down to Ontario this Winter..Brian is blown away when I tell him about it..Meanwhile the Owl look embarrassed with all the attention....not too many people in the N Pole where he was born I guess.before they ask him for an autograph...he flies away..when I Phone and  tell my Mother in India about it she says  its a " Lokkhi Paecha" ( Lucky Owl..) in Bengali.. well I guess he definitely was..Brian and me had a wonderful winter for sure..

February 2014 we were at the frozen Niagara Falls and  then March we started going out on our long long walks by the Humber River near the Old Mills in West Toronto..
The Humber River is a beautiful River which was used by the Native Indians  to travel to the Lake Ontario and beyond..In Spring, Summer and Fall ,Brian and I love to walk along the wooded banks and spot the seasonal birds, the jumping salmon and the occasional deer .

Ice Jam on The Humber River March 2014.
This time we saw the Ice jams..they are unbelievable...As a thick layer of  Ice forms on the River and the spring or pre- spring showers break the ice into huge blocks..the blocks are washed down the stream and they form huge ice Jams.that can dam up the river ....here is a picture of the frozen ice jam on the Humber River in March 2014..taken by Brian..
In the last few weeks of March we saw the Robins return from their winter in Florida and then one after the other  the Canadian Geese and the Blue Jays..
( Birds not players)..yes we love the Humber River..
In 2012..Brian ran the Scotia Bank Toronto water front Marathon .As preperation for the event he would practice jogging almost everyday by these river banks sometimes covering 23 Kms in a Run..Yes this River means a lot to us...incidentally Brian completed the race with a Silver medal.and was in the top 25 of his category. In March the winter blasts were still hitting the city and one day we found a Little raccoon crying and  shivering near the kitchen window...Brian patted it..and .I put out an old towel and a warm bed for him and fed him left overs every night..as the weather grew warmer and he grew fatter. he left this `nest'. The Raccoon now watches me from the Maple tree in the front yard..though the leaves have not sprouted so late in April...I always give him a thumps up ..
Black Squirrel in Toronto

Its Spring..the Jet Black mother squirrel  I know so well..was teaching her kids how to cross the lane using the electric wires. I heard that in our fair city somewhere there is a little Raccoon that is pretty good at it.
( here is a clip of that Raccoon that has mastered the art). I do hope that he is still around and doing well at what he does best..

Video: Clever Toronto raccoon masters tightrope walking ...

Its Spring..there is a little moustachioed cat which lives down at McDonnell lane..all winter his owners kept him in..and let out just this week..He knows my footsteps and came running out to greet me this week..as we played and cuddled and he gave me his little tummy for a scratch..I felt good that life in all its loving shapes was coming back....

Brian's Mom loves Spring too..she just has a funny way of showing it..when the birds chatter in excitement back in their old nests  every morning his Mother shouts..."Ok guys shut up.." That is Cowboy language and not for us Indians..

Some other things we have been doing as winter transitions to Spring....taking the subway Down Town every weekend to watch the latest movies.Me cooking Chicken Curry which Cowboys love as much as their traditional Turkey `thing'
..

Cuckoo birds in far away India..
Getting a feel of the I -max theater at the Ontario Science center.. The only one of its kind on Ontario..we got to see the Movie on Jerusalem and one of Sharks that had me shivering.. No jumping into shark infested water is not on my agenda of things to do before I die..
...As Spring arrives in Canada and its Mid summer in India..I remember the warm summers there and the Cuckoo bird swaying on the Mango Tree and singing her songs.." I miss My Mother..I miss my childhood friends..my homeland , my home and and of course the Cuckoos. I always tell Brian about them..."don't worry" he says".We will make sure you get to visit your Mother soon this year ..but I would not worry about the Cuckoos.there is one in front of me right now.." yeah right ! You Cowboy..But I love you with all my heart and forever will...!!!
